Based on Hazelwood’s novel, “The Love Hypothesis” follows Olive, played by Reinhart, a brilliant PhD candidate trying to stay focused on her academic future. But when she realizes her best friend, Ahn, played by Rachel Marsh, has fallen for her crush, Jeremy, played by Nicholas Duvernay, Olive impulsively kisses the intimidating professor, Adam Carlsen, played by Bateman, to prove she has moved on.
Naturally, that desperate act of friendship spirals into a fake relationship, complete with rules, boundaries, and a mutually beneficial agreement. But as the arrangement begins to blur the line between performance and reality, Olive has to test a far more daunting hypothesis: whether love might actually be worth the risk.
The film is directed by Claire Scanlon and written by Sarah Rothschild. Elizabeth Cantillon produces for The Cantillon Company, with MRC presenting the film. The cast also includes Jaboukie Young-White, Arty Froushan, Marsh, and Duvernay.
“The Love Hypothesis” is one of several Prime Video YA titles being showcased through Obsession Is In Session, alongside projects including “Every Year After,” “Elle,” “Off Campus,” “Overcompensating,” “Your Fault: London,” and “Drawn Together.”
“The Love Hypothesis” streams globally on Prime Video on September 23. Watch the teaser below.
