'The Mandalorian & Grogu': Boba Fett Actor Says His Character Has Been "Put On The Shelf" & Won't Appear In Spinoff Film

Prior to “The Mandalorian,” people truly loved the character of Boba Fett. He was only briefly shown in the “Star Wars” films, but everyone was fascinated by the bounty hunter, even when the prequels gave him a bit of a backstory. So, when the character showed up again, years later, in “The Mandalorian,” everyone was psyched. But now, it appears the character has lost a bit of the luster and won’t be featured in the upcoming film, “The Mandalorian & Grogu.”

Speaking at Fan Expo Chicago (via Screen Rant), actor Temuera Morrison took part in a panel about Boba Fett. The actor was eventually asked if he was going to take part in the aforementioned film, “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” which was seemingly created from a story that would have been Season 4 of the series. According to Morrison, you shouldn’t expect to see Boba Fett show up in the film.

“I’m still waiting for a phone call to be quite honest,” Morrison said. “I think we’re just put on the shelf for a little bit. Maybe we come off the shelf later.”

As for why Disney and Lucasfilm have put Boba Fett “on the shelf,” you could probably just point to the release of the ‘Mandalorian’ spinoff series, “The Book of Boba Fett.” As the title implies, that show focused primarily on Morrison’s character, but it failed to live up to the hype. It’s perhaps one of the worst-received shows that Lucasfilm has released on Disney+. And because of the fan reception, it would appear the character is being sidelined for now.

Does this mean Boba Fett is going to continue to sit on the shelf? Who knows? The character is still really popular amongst fans. Perhaps he shows up again. Hell, Morrison might still show up in “The Mandalorian & Grogu.” There’s still plenty of time for that to happen.

“The Mandalorian & Grogu” arrives in theaters on May 22, 2026.
