Studios are always desperate to create viral videos on social media. Whether it’s Tom Holland and Zendaya breaking down a ‘Spider-Man’ trailer or just as simple as sharing some of the best scenes from films, studios will do anything to get some attention. But rarely does someone do what Lionsgate did to celebrate the release of “The Batman” by adding 100% more Nicolas Cage.
In the parody trailer for “The Matban: Uncaged,” Lionsgate took clips from “Kick-Ass,” “Twilight,” and the upcoming “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” to make a fake ‘Batman’ trailer. Most of the footage shows Cage’s performance as Big Daddy from “Kick-Ass,” which is already heavily inspired by Batman. But there is a quick joke about current Batman, Robert Pattison, being in “Twilight” and some meta-commentary from ‘Unbearable Weight’ to round out the proceedings.
Is it the funniest thing to ever grace the internet? No way. But for a Hollywood studio trying to come up with something silly, it’s pretty solid. Plus, we can never say no to anything that adds more Nicolas Cage. More Cage always equals more better.
