'The Materialists': Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans & Pedro Pascal Eyed For Celine Song's New A24 Drama

While “Past Lives” got nominated for Best Picture and Best Screenplay, there were many who were hoping to see even more love given to Celine Song’s breakout drama. Even still, you can’t help but applaud the young director for her incredible debut feature. Thankfully, it looks like she’s not resting on her laurels and is ready to get the ball rolling on another feature this year, “The Materialists.” And guess what? She’s got trio of A-list actors ready to work with her.

According to Deadline, A24 is teaming up with Celine Song yet again for “The Materialists,” a new film that she hopes to begin work on this spring. The report also claims the cast for the film could include none other than Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal. That’s an incredible cast for the film, and a trio of actors who are all pretty well beloved by audiences. Needless to say, this makes “The Materialists” instantly one of the most anticipated films of the next year or so. Plot details are largely unknown, but the report said the film will follow a matchmaker who is dating a wealthy man but still pines after the broke person she dated before.

Johnson is probably best known for her work in the ‘50 Shades’ films, but she’s also someone who consistently makes really interesting career choices. She’s starred in films like “A Bigger Splash” and “Suspiria,” while also signing up for something like “Madame Web.” It’s interesting. Evans, on the other hand, is Captain America and everyone loves him. Moving onto Pascal, he’s more popular than ever before, as he stars in the massively popular HBO series, “The Last of Us.”

These three have yet to officially sign on, but it appears they’re going to happen. The film is expected to hit the market to find distribution at EFM soon. Production is hoping to begin this spring. If that’s the case, there’s an outside chance this could show up later this year, but more likely in 2025.
