Got a Tip?

‘The Perfect Couple’ Teaser: Netflix’s Erin Hilderbrand Adaptation Starring Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber & More Premieres On September 5

Over the past two decades, Elin Hilderbrand‘s prolific output of Nantucket-set romance novels made her “the Queen of beach reads.” But now that the novelist is retired (kinda), what will the Hilderbabes (and dudes) do? No worries here: Netflix is officially in the Hilderbrand business, and the streamer’s first (of presumedly many) adaptation of the writer’s works premieres in September.

The first Hilderbrand book to get the mini-series treatment?  2018’s “The Perfect Couple,” about a wedding on Nantucket postponed after a body washes up on the beach. Read on the for the official synopsis, courtesy of Netflix:

Amelia Sacks is about to marry into one of the wealthiest families on Nantucket. Her disapproving future mother-in-law, famous novelist Greer Garrison Winbury, has spared no expense in planning what promises to be the premiere wedding of the season — until a body turns up on the beach. As secrets come to light, the stage is set for a real-life investigation that feels plucked from the pages of one of Greer’s novels. Suddenly, everyone is a suspect.

Nicole Kidman stars in “The Perfect Couple” with Liev Schreiber, Dakota Fanning, Jack Reynor, and Meghann Fahy. Other cast include Eve Hewson, Ishaan Khatter, Sam Nivola, Michael Beach, and Donna Lynne Champlin.  Mia Isaac and Isabelle Adjani round out the main cast.

Susanne Bier directs all of “The Perfect Couple” episodes, and also serves as executive producer.  Jenna Lamia adapts Hilderbrand’s novel as showrunner, and also executive produces.  Other executive producers include Shawn Levy through 21 Laps Entertainment, Gail Berman and Hend Baghdady for The Jackal Group, Kidman and Per Saari for Blossom Films, Hilderbrand, and Josh Barry.

Given Hilderbrand’s broad appeal and massive popularity, it’s safe to assume “The Perfect Couple” won’t be Netflix’s last adaptation of the author’s work.  But let’s see how this one does before any big predictions. “The Perfect Couple” hits the streamer on September 5.
