'The Room Next Door' Trailer: Tilda Swinton & Julianne Moore Star In Pedro Almodóvar's English-Language Debut

Well before anyone saw a frame of footage, it was well known that “The Room Next Door” would be in the awards season discussion. That’s what happens when you have a film directed by Pedro Almodóvar (his English-language debut, no less) and starring Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore. Now, all that’s left is to see how people feel about it when it’s finally released.

As seen in the trailer for the film, “The Room Next Door” tells the story of estranged friends who previously worked together at the same magazine. And years later, they reconnect in what is described as an extreme but sweet situation.

The film stars Tilda Swinton, Julianne Moore, John Turturro, and Alessandro Nivola. ‘Next Door’ is written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar.

“The Room Next Door” begins its select theaters run on December 20 before expanding nationwide in January 2025. You can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

Ingrid (Julianne Moore) and Martha (Tilda Swinton) were close friends in their youth, when they worked together at the same magazine.  Ingrid went on to become an autofiction novelist while Martha became a war reporter, and they were separated by the circumstances of life. After years of being out of touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation.
