Following reports of strong viewership numbers from third-party sources like SambaTV, Amazon Studios is doubling down on the success of “The Tomorrow War.” which they clearly believe can be a viable streaming franchise. Deadline reports that Amazon and Skydance are already in early development on “The Tomorrow War 2″ with talks to have director Chris McKay and screenwriter Zach Dean return alongside cast members such as Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski, Betty Gilpin, Sam Richardson, Edwin Hodge, and J.K. Simmons.
Led by Pratt, the sci-fi time travel actioner centers on a science teacher and family man who is thrust into fighting a war with aliens in the future. Amazon seems to have made out well in the end with their choice, reportedly spending a massive amount of money to acquire the Skydance film from Paramount Pictures earlier this year.
McKay has already teased more films while recently speaking with Variety, “We had such a fun design process,” he said. “We talked about the world of these creatures, where they came from, how they were created or raised, and how they were maybe being used. I like world-building experiments, especially when you have the potential for some time travel. I think that a sequel could go in a lot of fun areas and the ethnographic study of the [aliens[ in their world and where they came from, and what their purpose was, and all of that kind of thing. So yeah, I think that could be a lot of fun. And with this cast, too, we’re just getting started.”

Chris Pratt is a busy guy as he just wrapped on Universal’s “Jurassic World: Dominion” before heading to Australia to shoot “Thor: Love & Thunder.” He will then begin shooting James Gunn‘s “Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.3” in November. That Marvel Studios production is said to include a Disney+ holiday special with that ‘Guardians’ cast. No word on when we might see a “Tomorrow War 2,” but since Amazon is clearly pleased with the results, expect news sooner, rather than later.
