The new teaser for “The Undoing” does exactly what you want a teaser for a series to do—shows the major players, hints at the story, and gives you all the reasons why you want to sit down and watch for hours. Just from this, it’s clear that HBO likely has yet another hit on its hands.

“The Undoing” stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant as a married couple that seemingly has it all. They have a wonderful family, a beautiful home, and plenty of financial security (putting it lightly). And that all changes overnight as a violent death threatens to throw their idyllic little world into chaos. The HBO limited series comes from director and executive producer Susanne Bier and writer David E. Kelley, based on the novel “You Should Have Known” from author Jean Hanff Korelitz. Bier directed all six episodes of the series.

Joining Kidman and Grant in the cast are Edgar Ramirez, Noah Jupe, Lily Rabe, Noma Dumezweni, Sofie Gråbøl, Matilda De Angelis, Ismael Cruz Córdova, and Donald Sutherland. As mentioned, the series is directed by Susanne Bier and written by David E. Kelley. Bier is probably best known for her Netflix hit, “Bird Box,” but she has a history with TV, directing the critically-acclaimed and Golden Globe and Emmy-award-winning “The Night Manager” (Bier won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series, Movie or Dramatic Special). Kelley is a legend in the realm of TV, writing numerous major series and is probably best known recently for his work on “Big Little Lies.”

“The Undoing” is expected to arrive on HBO and HBO Max on October 25.

Here’s the synopsis:

The limited series The Undoing, premiering October 25th , stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant as Grace and Jonathan Fraser, who are living the only lives they ever wanted for themselves. Overnight a chasm opens in their lives: a violent death and a chain of terrible revelations. Left behind in the wake of a spreading and very public disaster and horrified by the ways in which she has failed to heed her own advice, Grace must dismantle one life and create another for her child (Noah Jupe) and her family.
