‘Thor: Love & Thunder’: Taika Waititi Explains How Brett Goldstein’s Cameo Came About

**Spoilers below for “Thor: Love & Thunder.” You’ve been warned.**

For the third time in Phase 4, Marvel Studios has used a post-credits scene in a film to introduce a brand-new character played by a major star. In “Eternals,” it was the inclusion of Harry Styles as Starfox. “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” shocked fans with the introduction of Charlize Theron’s Clea. And now, “Thor: Love & Thunder” took the time to show Brett Goldstein as Hercules.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Taika Waititi talked about the surprising inclusion of Brett Goldstein as Hercules in the post-credits scene and explains how the casting came about. Not surprisingly, the filmmaker plays it coy about where we might see Hercules show up later in the MCU.

“I can’t share much because that was all [Marvel Studios president] Kevin [Feige]. Kevin was like, ‘Hercules? How about we ask Brett [Goldstein]?’ Kevin keeps his cards close to his chest. I don’t wanna be like, ‘Where you going to go with this Hercules character?’ It’s pretty exciting to open up this world of Zeus and Hercules and the Greek gods.”

Goldstein is best known as Roy in “Ted Lasso,” for which he’s earned an Emmy for his performance. The actor is also one of the co-creators and writers of the show. For years, fans have been excited to see Hercules debut in the MCU, and they were incredibly shocked to see Goldstein wear the costume in ‘Love & Thunder.’ However, it’s unclear when we might see the character in the future.

As ‘Love & Thunder’ shows, Hercules is the son of Zeus and is sent on a mission to avenge the embarrassment suffered by his father, played by Russell Crowe. This does set up a possible appearance in ‘Thor 5,’ but that film has yet to be announced and is likely years away. When Marvel Studios hires someone like Goldstein for a fairly major (though still B-list) character, you have to assume the studio has something in mind for the future. So, we’ll just have to wait and see what those plans are because you have to assume Kevin Feige has a master plan…right?
