'Together Together' Trailer: Ed Helms & Patti Harrison Are Having A Baby In Nikole Beckwith's Sundance Film

Together Together” seems like a film you could easily put in the rom-com genre, based on its premise alone. But as seen in the trailer, this film is much different than you would initially think.

“Together Together” tells the story of a lonely guy in his 40s that wants nothing more than to be a dad. He then hires a surrogate woman in her 20s to carry his child. Over the course of the pregnancy, the two become unlikely friends and help each other navigate life. This is when you might think they fall in love and live happily ever after, but it’s clear that isn’t the intention of this film and why it wouldn’t be your typical type of rom-com, as it doesn’t necessarily have any of the romance.

The film stars Ed Helms and Patti Harrison. Helms, of course, has been in a number of comedies, including “The Hangover” and the TV series, “The Office.” Harrison, on the other hand, is an up-and-coming actress that has stolen scenes in “Shrill” and “I Think You Should Leave.” Joining them in the cast are Tig Notaro, Julio Torres, Anna Konkle, Timm Sharp, Evan Jonigkeit, Rosalind Chao, Sufe Bradshaw, Greta Titelman, Nora Dunn, and Fred Melamed. “Together Together” is written and directed by Nikole Beckwith.

We saw the film as part of this year’s Sundance, and in our review, we said, “The weight of Matt’s journey toward self-determination coupled with Anna’s endlessly knotty journey as an incubator should give ‘Together Together’ unsettled dramatic heft. But for a movie about the inequities inherent in both parent/surrogate relationships and expecting father/expecting mother relationships, the stakes hover surprisingly low in the plot stratosphere.”

“Together Together” arrives in theaters on April 23 and on VOD on May 11. You can watch the new trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

When young loner Anna is hired as the gestational surrogate for Matt, a single man in his 40s who wants a child, the two strangers come to realize this unexpected relationship will quickly challenge their perceptions of connection, boundaries and the particulars of love.
