Tom Hardy Shuts Down 'Asinine' Rumor About Upcoming 'Venom' Film

Ever since Sony announced plans to produce a film based on the Marvel villain, Venom, fans were confused. The main source of confusion stems from the fact that, as part of the Marvel Studios/Sony deal, Spider-Man is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while the “Venom” film is clearly not. So, how can you make a film based on a Spider-Man villain, without Spider-Man? Especially considering the origin of Venom is so closely tied to Spider-Man, himself. The truth is, we still don’t know.

One of the other questions surrounding the film is what exactly Venom will look like, keeping in mind Spider-Man’s absence. You see, Venom is modeled after Spider-Man, who briefly wore the famous “black suit” symbiote, down to the spider symbol on his chest. This has led some to speculate that Venom might not actually “suit up” in the film, and Tom Hardy, who plays Eddie Brock, aka Venom, will hardly resemble the Marvel character. This is after a reddit rumor went around that someone saw a rough cut of the film and noticed a distinct lack of Venom in the “Venom” movie.

Well, Tom Hardy took to Instagram to clear this confusion up himself. And let’s just say, Hardy is a man that gets straight to the point. His post reads, as follows (spelling/punctuation errors and all):

“just sayin Venom suit – myths usually asinine circulate about things usually by those who have failed to garner credible intel”

Okay, then.

We’re guessing this means that rumors of Venom’s lack of costume are “asinine” and that Hardy will, in fact, suit up for the film. The accompanying picture to his post is equally as cryptic, with a skull and banner that reads “face eater.” We’re honestly not sure what this is in reference to. Perhaps, a peek at the eventual costume?

With “Venom” still over half a year away from release, there’s no need for fans to panic, just yet. We’re guessing the next trailer for the film will definitely have a glimpse of the character in costume, even if just for a moment, to appease fans and generate a little buzz. Or maybe Sony really is going for an avant-garde “Venom” film that never actually shows the main character? Yeah, probably not.

“Venom” is scheduled for release on October 5.
