Got a Tip?

Toni Collette To Star In Series From ‘The Kids Are All Right’ Director About Controversial Rape Case

There’s a lot of buzz surrounding Toni Collette right now. The actress stars in the new film, “Hereditary,” which is drawing immense praise and early awards talk, and rightfully so. Collette owns every frame that she appears in. And with everyone on the Toni Collette bandwagon right now, we’re all really excited for what’s next.

According to Variety, one of her upcoming projects sees the actress team up with the director of “The Kids Are All Right” for a series titled “Unbelievable.” The story follows two detectives, played by Collette and Merritt Wever (“Godless”), as they investigate a case where a young teen girl is accused about lying about being raped. The story is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning article “An Unbelievable Story of Rape.”

The series will premiere on Netflix, which is showing yet again that it’s not afraid of opening up the pocketbook to attract big talent to the platform. As we mentioned, the eight-episode series is directed by Lisa Cholodenko, best known for her work on “Olive Kitteridge,” “The L Word,” and the aforementioned “The Kids Are All Right.” “Unbelievable” will be written by Michael Chabon, Ayelet Waldman, and Susannah Grant. Rounding out the cast is Kaitlyn Dever, who will play the accused young girl and is best known for her work in “Last Man Standing,” as well as the film “Detroit.”

In addition to “Hereditary,” Collette will also be seen in another Netflix series titled “Wanderlust.” Similar to her turn in “Hereditary,” “Wanderlust” will see Collette star in a drama about a multi-generational family. However, we’re expecting way less horrific imagery and screaming. According to reports, the series will tackle the question of monogamy. So yeah, don’t think that leaves much room for creepy miniatures and that “click” noise that has been haunting dreams.

There’s no word on a release date yet, but whenever it is, you’ll be sure that we’ll let you know.
