Writer/director James L. Brooks is finally back after a fifteen-year hiatus from filmmaking with his newest effort, “Ella McCay,” and we’ve landed a first-look trailer featuring cast members Emma Mackey, Jamie Lee Curtis, Woody Harrelson, Spike Fearn, Ayo Edebiri, Albert Brooks, Jack Lowden, Rebecca Hall, Kumail Nanjiani, and Julie Kavner.
If you weren’t already aware, Brooks is synonymous with American comedy, thanks to his involvement with wildly popular TV projects over multiple decades, such as “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Rhoda,” “Taxi,” “The Tracey Ulman Show,” “The Simpsons,” and “The Critic.”

His acclaimed feature directorial career includes a string of dramedies with “Terms of Endearment,” “Broadcast News,” “As Good As It Gets,” “Spanglish,” and his last release was 2010’s “How Do You Know.” He also co-wrote and produced “The Simpsons” movie, which made over half a billion dollars at the box office back in 2007 for 20th Century.

Mackey has secured some extremely high-profile projects over the last couple of years, with roles in Greta Gerwig‘s new “Narnia” movie at Netflix (after a small role in “Barbie“), and is currently shooting the untitled J.J. Abrams-directed UFO (the sci-fi sub-genre is hot as a pistol right now in Hollywood) movie at Warner Bros. Other projects coming soon include Julia Ducournau‘s buzzy “Alpha” and the Rebecca Lenkiewicz drama “Hot Milk.”
