Paramount Reveals 'Star Trek 4' With Original Cast Details, 'A Quiet Place III,' 'Transformers' & More

Paramount‘s big ViacomCBS Investors Event held this afternoon dropped a barrage of Paramount+ television offerings news about the Taylor Sheridan-verse, yet another “Yellowstone” spin-off, more “South Park,” “Halo” news, and more. However, that’s not all the offered in their battalion of announcements meant to dazzle investors and Wall Street. Included in their offerings was a vast array of news from their film slate and a library that includes Paramount content, related CBS content, MTV, and more. One of the big revelations is that once they’ve ended their theatrical run, Paramount movies will be exclusively found on Paramount+ as their new streaming home.

But on to the big news: First and foremost, “Star Trek” on the big screen is coming back. Paramount announced that the next theatrical film, aka “Star Trek 4,” with Matt Shakman (“WandaVision“) directing and J.J. Abrams producing, will feature the original cast (Chris Pine, et al.) and new characters.

Concerning their big franchises, the next era of the “Transformers” will begin with “Transformers: Rise of The Beasts,” as the studio announces it will be part one of a trilogy of live-action films. It’s unclear if the same creative team and cast will be returning for the next two installments, but there is a good shot they will.

While the spinoff to “A Quiet Place” is due next year, the studio revealed that “A Quiet Place III” with Emily Blunt and co. is coming to theaters in 2025, however, it’s unknown if John Krasinski will be back in the director’s chair.

Paramount also announced that “Sonic The Hedgehog 3” is already in development ahead of the first sequel’s release on April 8 and a spin-off series featuring Idris Elba‘s Knuckles character, who is already being teed up in the next film coming this spring.

On the animation front, they reaffirmed plans for an untitled CG animated “Transformers” theatrical film in 2024. Also, coming to Paramount+ will be three character-driven “SpongeBob” movies and a wave of villain-focused “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” A new live-action “Ninja Turtles” movie is in the works alongside Seth Rogen‘s animated one but an update wasn’t mentioned today among the various announcements from the Investors Event.

Here’s the details all laid out:

  • A QUIET PLACE – A Quiet Place Part III from John Krasinski, is confirmed for theatrical debut in 2025. As previously announced, the next installment of A Quiet Place from director Michael Sarnoski, based on an original idea from Krasinski, is set for release on September 22, 2023.
  • SONIC THE HEDGEHOG – the first-ever original live-action Sonic series, featuring the character Knuckles, voiced by Idris Elba, is in development to debut on Paramount+, setting up the third film installment in the flagship franchise.
  • SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS UNIVERSE – a further expansion of the SpongeBob universe is coming exclusively to Paramount+ with three brand-new movies based on the show’s original characters, with the first dropping in 2023. In addition, a fourth SpongeBob release from Nickelodeon Animation is currently in development for theatrical release.
  • STAR TREK – the next theatrical film, with Matt Shakman directing and J.J. Abrams producing, will feature the original cast and new characters.
  • TEEN WOLF – the first-ever original production from MTV Entertainment Studios and MGM’s Orion Television, Paramount+ will reunite the original Teen Wolf cast for an exclusive full-length movie. Tyler Posey, Holland Roden, Shelley Hennig and Crystal Reed are set to reprise their iconic roles alongside Orny Adams, Linden Ashby, JR Bourne, Seth Gilliam, Colton Haynes, Ryan Kelley, Melissa Ponzio and Dylan Sprayberry. Additional names to be announced.
  • TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES – a new era of TMNT-mania takes over in 2023 with a new animated take on the Turtles coming to theaters, produced by Point Grey Pictures’ Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and directed by Jeff Rowe. Nickelodeon Animation will fast follow that film with a series of exclusive movies for Paramount+ beginning in 2023, each centering on one of the property’s storied villains in never-before-told tales.
  • TRANSFORMERS – the next chapter begins with Transformers: Rise of the Beasts in 2023, where director Steven Caple Jr. and star Anthony Ramos, will lead the first of three film installments of the iconic Hasbro property. Additionally, the previously announced Untitled Animated Transformers filma Paramount/eOne co-production with Josh Cooley attached to direct, will debut in theaters on July 19, 2024.
