'Yellowstone' Getting Another Prequel Series With Spinoff '1932'

The Dutton Family is a booming business for Paramount, writer/director Taylor Sheridan and the Kevin Costner-led “Yellowstone” franchise has already spun off with the hit prequel “1883” taking more of a direct western leaning and is looking to move forward with the next incarnation. This Montana-set series explores the last real frontier as business interests and nature collide.

Knowing this is their golden-ticket Paramount+ streaming service has ordered “1932” to series and is the next chapter of the “Yellowstone” origin story. It will be produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios. This new show allows Taylor Sheridan’s television empire to expand on the streaming service alongside established projects such as “1883” and “The Mayor of Kingstown.”

The show’s logline as revealed by Paramount+ is as follows: “‘1932’ will follow a new generation of Duttons during the time of western expansion, Prohibition, and the Great Depression.” But in an accompanying video below, Sheridan reveals it will be the next iteration as you expect: following the children of the Duttons in “1883” as adults.

This news comes off the heels of “1883,” nabbing a record-breaking performance that shattered the service’s record as the most-watched title ever globally.

“Promoting the series through linear sampling on the Paramount Network during their latest record-breaking season of ‘Yellowstone’ further enabled us to introduce Sheridan’s loyal audience to this fantastic new series. We look forward to bringing fans even more of the Duttons’ origin story,” said Tanya Giles, chief programming officer, ViacomCBS Streaming

It’ll be interesting to see if “1932” tackles bootlegging Whiskey from Canada and the criminal elements that would bring to Yellowstone and the Dutton Family, who don’t seem that worried about getting their hands dirty. A whole new cast is expected to be assembled and should lead to devoted fans coming up with their own wishlists for the actors playing 1930s-era members of the Dutton Family and their cohorts.
