Tyrese Confirms Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's Involvement In 'Fast Five'; Ludacris Also Returning To Franchise

We’re loath to admit it, but this writer has something of a soft spot for the “Fast & The Furious” franchise. While they’ve never really aspired to be anything more than cliched B-movies, that’s almost part of their appeal; they’re well executed (except for the turgid third installment) and unpretentious. The series got a new lease of life when it reunited the cast of the original in “Fast & Furious” last year, and a fifth entry, “Fast Five” (rather than our preferred titled, “Five Fast Five Fiverous”) is scheduled for next summer.

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker were already confirmed to be returning, presumably because they’re incapable of getting work anywhere else, and rumors had pegged actor/rapper Tyrese as returning to his role from “2 Fast 2 Furious,” and that the trio would be joined by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, as a cop pursuing the fugitive heroes.

Now courtesy of the Twitter account of Tyrese himself, both actors seem to be confirmed for the film, which will shoot shortly in LA, Atlanta, Rio de Janeiro and Puerto Rico — he wrote “Major shouts to Vin Diesel, Paul Walker & Dewayne “Rock” Johnson!! “Fast & Furious FIve” Let’s get em again!!” Furthermore, Ludacris, who also appeared in the first sequel, has similarly tweeted that he’ll be returning to the franchise. Producer Neal Moritz has previously promised that several actors from earlier in the franchise would make in appearance in “Fast Five” so we imagine that, somewhere, Lucas Black is patiently awaiting for a phone call. Assuming of course, that Moritz and director Justin Lin can remember who Black is. Or indeed, assuming that Lucas Black can remember who Lucas Black is. [Collider]
