Filmmaker David F. Sandberg is not taking disappointments very hard. Despite “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” (2023) tanking pretty hard and ending Zachary Levi’s DCU reign as Shazam (which may have been inevitable, to be honest), Sandberg has brushed it all off and returned rather quickly with a new movie. And in doing so, with his latest film, “Until Dawn,” he’s returned to the horror genre that’s made him famous.

Written by Blair Butler and Gary Dauberman, “Until Dawn” is a live-action spin-off of the 2015 video game developed by Supermassive Games. Set in the same universe, in the film, a group of teenagers is trapped in a remote valley by a murderer and are killed, but are sent back in time and forced to relive the night of their killings.
The film stars up-and-comer Ella Rubin, who turned heads alongside Elle Fanning in “The Girl from Plainville.” She is also known for her part in “Anora,” “The Sweet East,” and the most recent version of “Gossip Girl.” Starring alongside Rubin are Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo, Odessa A’zion, Maia Mitchell, Belmont Cameli, and Peter Stormare as the murderer.
Here’s the synopsis:
One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover and her friends head into the remote valley where she vanished in search of answers. Exploring an abandoned visitor center, they find themselves stalked by a masked killer and horrifically murdered one by one…only to wake up and find themselves back at the beginning of the same evening. Trapped in the valley, they’re forced to relive the nightmare again and again – only each time, the killer threat is different, each more terrifying than the last. Hope dwindling, the group soon realizes they have a limited number of deaths left, and the only way to escape is to survive until dawn.
“Until Dawn” will arrive in theaters on April 25 via Sony Pictures. You can watch the first trailer below.
