Hot off breaking the midnight screening record, “The Twilight Saga” actress Nikki Reed recently signed on to the unfortunately titled “Catch .44” along with “True Blood” actress Deborah Ann Woll. They round out the cast that includes Bruce Willis, Forest Whitaker, Malin Akerman and Kate Mara. Reed is also known for her start in the brutal picture “Thirteen,” which she also wrote and based off of her own life. Yikes.
Reed and Woll will play, along with Akerman, “three gorgeous female assassins sent on a job that might be their last.” Sounds positively boring, though it couldn’t possibly be more dull than the team of “gorgeous female jewel thieves” in “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.” As previously reported, Willis will play the head crime boss and Whitaker will play a psychopathic hitman. The other reported roles of “grizzled trucker” and “delusional line cook” haven’t been officially filled, so start contacting your agents! Dream picks: The Barbarian Brothers.
One thing to note is that the Deadline article mentions all of the above, but not Kate Mara. Has she left the project? With the three assassin roles filled, either her presence in the film is minimal or she has been replaced by one of the soapy vamps. Or… she’s a grizzled trucker. We’re hoping for the latter. Anything to make this picture more interesting. This writer isn’t the biggest fan of the torturous “Thirteen,” but will admit that it was a promising start for a new actress to write and co-star her first film. Hopefully Reed hits the note pad sooner than later, as “The Twilight Saga” is starting to overshadow her previous work.
Shooting begins next week in Louisiana, and at some point writer/director Aaron Harvey will explain his motives behind his first feature, “The Evil Woods.”
