One of the many projects halted by the SAG-AFTRA strike this summer was “Venom 3,” the upcoming capstone to the trilogy devoted to Tom Hardy‘s anti-hero. Now that SAG and the AMPTP have agreed to terms and the strike is over, it’s time to figure out when all those stalled productions will reach theaters. In the case of Sony‘s sequel, Variety reports that “Venom 3” will now hit theaters on November 8, 2024.
Coincidentally, that’s one of the two dates Sony reserved for upcoming Marvel projects back in June (the other being June 27, 2025, which many speculate may be “Spider-Man 4“). “Venom 3” started shooting in Spain in late June before the SAG strike delayed production. Now, production will resume shortly, with additional shooting in London. Along with Hardy, Juno Temple leads the sequel, with Chiwetel Ejiofor also in an undisclosed role.
Kelly Marcel directs “Venom 3,” her feature debut after producing and writing credits on 2018’s “Venom” and 2021’s “Venom: Let There Be Carnage.” Marcel and Hardy developed the story for the sequel together. They also co-produce “Venom 3” with Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, and Hutch Parker.
While “Venom” and “Let There Be Carnage” did okay at the box office, it’s the possible cross-over between the MCU and Sony’s Spider-Verse in “Venom 3” that has fans most excited. Hardy’s Eddie Brock last showed up in a post-credits scene of 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” leading many to consider Brock may show up in “Spider-Man 4.” But there could be any number of cameos in “Venom 3,” including Jared Leto‘s Morbius (not very likely), Aaron Taylor-Johnson‘s Kraven The Hunter (a little more likely), and Dakota Johnson‘s Madame Web (who knows?).
Plot details for the sequel are under wraps, but expect something on the cameo front in “Venom 3,” even if it’s just a nod to Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker like in the post-credits scene of “Let There Be Carnage.” But a new release date for Marcel’s sequel is good news. Stay tuned on what “Venom 3” has in store for audiences, though.
