Prepare thyselves. The Christopher Nolan-produced, Johnny Depp-starring directorial debut by cinematographer Wally Pfister has nailed down a release date. So let the next twelve months of clue-gathering begin.
Warner Bros. has slated “Transcendence” for an April 25, 2014 release date. Of course, exact plot details are being kept hidden in a secret chamber, deep beneath the Earth, only to be opened by the perfectly timed application of fingerprints and retinal scans provided by Pfister and Nolan. But what we do know is the plot revolves around an assassinated scientist who gets his brain uploaded to a computer, and Paul Bettany has a role in the movie as well. The spring date suggests: a) this is more brains that blockbuster brawn b) WB is just trying to get a head start on “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” “Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes” and their own “Godzilla” movie, which will land in May, or c) the weekend was just open, plain and simple.
So mark this down in your calendars and plan to call in sick that day. No other movies are yet scheduled for the weekend of April 25th, 2014, but we reckon a few will try and tangle with this one. [Deadline]
