What happens when you put together Mads Mikkelsen and Eva Green in a western? Well, you capture our attention, that’s for sure. And while our Jessica Kiang didn’t quite fall for “The Salvation” at Cannes—calling it in her review a genre movie that’s “so faithful as to veer dangerously close to pastiche“—it’s still got enough intriguing ingredients to make it one the rest of us will catch up with anyway, if only to see Mikkelsen playing cowboy.
Co-starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jonathan Pryce, Eric Cantona and Mikael Persbrandt, and directed by Kristian Levring, the film follows a mild-mannered settler, new to America, who’s out for blood when a gang leader murders his wife and child. And these six new clips from the movie are extensive and perhaps spoilery, going deep into the movie, and circling around what seems to be some pretty major plot points. So fair warning. And after that, you can check out the appropriately dusty soundtrack cut “Grand Junction” by Kasper Winding.
“The Salvation” has been picked up by IFC Flims, but no release date has been set. Watch all below along with some behind-the-scenes featurettes too. [Eva Green Web]
