Well, you can't say that Bryan Singer's "Jack the Giant Killer" isn't delivering what the title implies. Yes, it's a movie based on the classic fairy tale, for better or worse, and this first trailer promises a movie somewhere between the ridiculounsness of "Mirror Mirror" and the awesomeness of "Snow White and the Huntsmen."
The first half of the spot is easily the worst and immediately put us on guard. All the preamble to Jack (played by Nicholas Hoult) getting the beans and growing them plays like a movie for eight-year-old kids, but after that? Well, that kingdom in the sky is actually pretty impressive, with the size and scope that actually is a lot more than what we envisioned, and with a genuine sense of danger. Once Jack gets to the top to find and rescue Isabella (Eleanor Tomlinson), shit gets very real. Beasts and yes, giants abound but the some of the big surprises are kept hidden for now, particularly that of the two-headed king of giants played by Bill Nighy and John Kassar. And oh yeah, Ewan McGregor is in this too but it seems his role is minimal (or again, still waiting for more to be unveiled). And yes folks, that does seem to be a wink to the water in the glass/jeep scene in "Jurassic Park."
So, cautious optimism here. "Jack the Giant Killer" will stomp into theaters in 3D on June 15, 2012. Watch below. [Apple]
