In the next film from Jon Favreau, you won’t see any Marvel superheroes, cowboys, aliens or elves from the North Pole lost in New York City. Instead, just a man with the modest ambition of trying to get a food truck off the ground.
Welcome to “Chef,” and with the film gearing up to premiere at the SXSW Film Festival next and open this spring, the first clip is here to give you a taste. Written- and directed-by and starring Favreau, the story follows a prominent Los Angeles chef who quits his job after clashing with the owner, refusing to compromise his creativity. He winds up on the other side of the country in Miami, teaming with his ex-wife, son and friend to launch a food truck which could save his career and personal life.
And while the movie may seem like a small-scale effort, Favreau has a heavyweight cast featuring Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo, Scarlett Johansson, Dustin Hoffman, Oliver Platt, Bobby Cannavale, Amy Sedaris, Emjay Anthony and Robert Downey, Jr., with famed Roy Choi consulting on the film as well (you can see him in a still below).
“Chef” opens on May 9th. Watch below and stay tuned for our review later today.
