Watch: First Trailer For Mel Gibson's Gritty, Violent 'Blood Father'

Blood Father, Mel GibsonThis year, the career resurrection of Mel Gibson will get two shots in the arm. He’s back behind the camera with a new directorial effort, helming the WWII tale "Hacksaw Ridge" starring Andrew Garfield, Sam Worthington, Teresa Palmer, and Gibson himself. But first out of the gate is "Blood Father" which looks like a straight up B-movie, the kind Liam Neeson has been doing lately, but with some pretty decent talent helping to shape it.

Directed by Jean-François Richet ("Mesrine," "Assault On Precinct 13") and written by Peter Craig ("The Town," "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 & 2"), the story follows an ex-con who has to get nasty to save his daughter from the grip of drug dealers. Here’s the synopsis:

After her drug kingpin boyfriend frames her for stealing a fortune in cartel cash, 18 year old Lydia (Moriarty) goes on the run, with only one ally in this whole wide world: her perennial screw-up of a dad, John Link (Gibson), who’s been a drunk, a drug addict, a motorcycle outlaw, and a convict in his time, and now is determined to keep his little girl from harm and, for once in his life, do the right thing…

Co-starring Erin Moriarty, Elisabeth Röhm, and William H. Macy, "Blood Father" opens in Australia on August 25th. No word yet on a U.S. date. Watch below.
