With Oscar voting now underway, there is no better time to remind those casting ballots — particularly in the tech categories — that "The Avengers" was more than just an all-star cast running around in tights. The record smashing success not only boasted the story talents of Joss Whedon, who gave every Marvel fan the popcorn movie they've been longing for, but also some impressive VFX work that brought the whole thing nearly flawlessly to life. And now it's time for those dudes to take a bow.
Industrial Light & Magic has dropped a great little featurette on the interwebs, showing the incredible amount of work that went into one of the key moments of the film's climatic battle sequence in Manhattan. It's the portion where all of The Avengers essentially start fighting together and camera swoops and moves to catch each of them in action. As you'll see a staggering amount of pixels and digital construction (and re-construction) went into it, including creating an all CGI Captain America at one point.
