Watch: International Trailer For Stephen Frears' Romantic Comedy 'Tamara Drewe' Starring Gemma Arteton

An early international trailer has been unveiled for Stephen Frears graphic-novel adaptation “Tamara Drewe” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last month.

Starring Gemma Arterton in the titular role along side the likes of Dominic Cooper and Luke Evans, the film is a loose adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s “Far From The Madding Crowd” and follows protagonist Drewe as she returns to her hometown as a new woman and finds herself in a number of romantic and social entanglements. Adapted for the screen by playwright Moira Buffini, the film also features a score by acclaimed French composer Alexandre Desplat.

Our Cannes review described the film as “a typical, very British small town comedy with all the zaniness, eccentric characters and madcap hijinks the genre implies.” We added that it’ll “certainly be an easy crowd-pleaser, and has the chance to be a modest box office success” but that its “structure, timing and humor is old-hat and rote” and the film is “ultimately unoriginal and predictable.”

“Tamara Drewe” will likely hit stateside this fall. [via MattRiviera]
