Finding an audience for a twisted, very R-rated revenge flick with a plot so bizarre, taking place in a world so strange that it can’t be easily packaged and sold, is no simple feat. But the folks at FilmDistrict are smartly playing on the mood of Spike Lee‘s upcoming “Oldboy” remake, at least early on, to try and spur some interest and those who might not know about Park Chan-wook‘s original. And now another new teaser has arrived.
Riffing on the “hotel” that Josh Brolin‘s lead has checked into (against his will) for twenty years, this new clip is mostly a montage of images with a pretty nice voiceover from Samuel L. Jackson, who notes that, “Never has a released guest, made his presence known to the outside world.” Effective stuff all around, and joining the clip below, you’ll find a few more promo posters as well.
“Oldboy” will be happy to bring your bags to your room starting on November 27th.
