Now that ABC has finally confirmed the inevitable and sent “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” to series, they’ve begun phase two naturally by marketing the bejesus out of it. A seven-second micro-teaser dropped on Friday, but now you can catch the first real glimpse of Agent Coulson’s second coming on TV.
Spearheaded by Joss Whedon himself, the new series certainly has pedigree behind it, along with Clark Gregg leading the super-spy organization’s members week-to-week. The 30-second teaser gives a glimpse of some of them, but expect cast members Brett Dalton, Ming-Na Wen, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge and Chloe Bennet to appear more prominently soon enough.
From the footage shown, there is a definite shift in tone and look to the show from the Marvel films before – expected, but still jarring. In place of a meticulously recreated CG New York, we get soundstages and a bit of worrisome effects work. However, the characters are the prime element that brings Whedon’s material to life, so if he nails that aspect in the new show (and Gregg’s “Don’t Touch Lola” line is a good start), we should be in for a treat.
