After flopping pretty hard with “The Lone Ranger” this summer, Disney is likely hoping to end the year on a brighter note, and that hope rests with their animation department and “Frozen.” And after a couple of mid-year teasers, the big push begins today with a brand new trailer and, well, at least they tried, right?
The concept is surely intriguing, with the story following Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell), who has to find her sister Elsa (Idina Menzel) who has put a spell and trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. But this premise is basically used to set up an animated road trip rom-com, with hunky Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) as the object of affection, as a flurry of jokes each more lifeless than the last whiz by, with Josh Gad doing his best to make snowman sidekick Olaf save the proceedings from completely melting. Why the more intriguing monster stuff is backgrounded is not for us to answer, but maybe a subsequent trailer will play up that side of the adventure a bit more.
“Frozen” arrives on November 27th. Trailer, pics and posters below.
