Got a Tip?

Watch: New ‘Tron: Legacy’ Trailer Is Pure Eye Candy (In A Good Way)

The “Tron: Legacy” presentation at Comic-Con has caused a collective pants jizz among the movie community, with First Showing going so far as to hyperbolically suggest that the few minutes of footage shown in San Diego promises that the film could possibly be better than “Inception.”

Well, for those of use who weren’t there, Disney has dropped a brand spanking new trailer and while it’s mostly pretty dazzling, we’ll hold on the “Inception” comparisons for now. First, the bad: the opening bit of Dad Flynn recounting his tale to his son as a bedtime story is pure cornball cheese and frankly, a pretty lazy narrative device. But, we expect that part of the film will be minimal and indeed the trailer wastes no time in getting to the good, namely, dropping us inside the electronic world of CLU. And yeah, it still looks pretty fucking great. The CGI version of the younger Jeff Bridges is startling, and we definitely got a shiver during the fireworks segment. Some of the obviously-made-for-3D scenes feel a little shoehorned in but hopefully that won’t be the case in the final product. But honestly, we would’ve loved to see more of David Bowie Michael Sheen as Castor.

“Tron: Legacy” hits theaters on December 17th in three different kinds of 3D (apparently).
