For fans of static shots with impeccable symmetry, buttloads of whimsy, and the color yellow, Rogerebert.com editor Matt Zoller Seitz’s 2013 book, “The Wes Anderson Collection,” is perhaps the most insightful and valuable piece of work about the director’s impressive filmography. Of course, the problem with writing a book about the body of work of a filmmaker who’s not only still alive, but is very much in his prime, is that his films following the release of the book will not be included. Perhaps considering the mark that “The Grand Budapest Hotel” has left on 2014, Seitz decided to get around this minor problem by releasing a companion book that focuses entirely on the hipster god’s latest. The book is titled, appropriately, “The Wes Anderson Collection: The Grand Budapest Hotel”.
The book, which will be released on February 10th, not only contains brand new interviews with Anderson, star Ralph Fiennes, costume designer Milena Canonero, composer Alexandre Desplat, DP Robert Yeoman, and production designer Adam Stockhausen, but also includes a section on Stefan Zweig, whose work heavily influenced Anderson while creating ‘Grand Budapest.’
In order to creatively promote the book, the publisher, Abrams Books, collaborated with Sirk Productions in order to put together an appropriately whimsical animated trailer. Directed by Kristian Fraga, the trailer features an animated version of Seitz giving the audience various details about the book while dodging some of the already iconic elements in the film, including Willem Dafoe’s deadly fists.
