‘Weapons’: Pedro Pascal Tapped To Lead Zach Cregger’s Follow-Up To ‘Barbarian’ At New Line

Actor Pedro Pascal is a busy guy. Not only is his HBO series “The Last of Us” a huge hit with audiences and critics, but he’s also got the lead role of Din Djarin in the popular series “The Mandalorian” at Lucasfilm, as well as a supporting role in Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator 2” that shoots over the summer with a stellar cast that features Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Barry Keoghan, and more. Yet, another high-profile project has crossed the path of the in-demand actor.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Pascal is set to lead the mysterious horror film “Weapons” at New Line Cinema which hails from writer-director Zach Cregger. A rising talent who recently gave us the twisty horror pic “Barbarian,” starring Georgina Campbell, Justin Long, and Bill Skarsgard. Despite the star signing on details about his character or the film’s plot are unknown for the moment.

“Weapons” is briefly described as “an interrelated, multistory horror epic that tonally is in the vein of ‘Magnolia,'” the acclaimed Paul Thomas Anderson film that was released back in 1999. Cregger’s film was picked up by New Line after an extensive bidding war between studios in the wake of “Barbarian” becoming a must-see sensation last year.

Other things for Pascal on the horizon include “Strange Way of Life,” a queer western short film co-starring Ethan Hawke from Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar that premieres later this month at the Cannes Film Festival. He also has a supporting role in Ethan Coen‘s solo directorial effort “Drive-Away Dolls,” and there is a small campaign from actor/comedian Jack Black for Pascal to play the villain Wario in a sequel to the billion-dollar hit animated film “Super Mario Bros. Movie.” There surely isn’t a shortage of roles for Pascal if he wants them.
