‘Wonder Man’ Teaser Trailer: Marvel’s New Disney+ Series Introduces Audiences To MCU Version Of ‘Avengers’ Team Member Simon Williams On January 27

Wonder Man” is the next big TV project hailing from the folks over at Marvel Studios, as they’ve released a new teaser trailer, and the show is set to debut on January 17. In the new show, we’ll see the return of Ben Kingsley‘s Trevor Slattery (previously seen in “Iron Man 3” and “Shang-Chi & The Legend of The Ten Rings“) as he navigates the MCU’s version of Hollywood with the newly introduced character Simon Williams, aka Wonder Man, played by Emmy-winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (“Watchmen,” “The Matrix Resurrections”).

Destin Daniel Cretton, who co-created the series with showrunner Andrew Guest (“30 Rock,” “Community,” Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), is set to tackle the first two episodes with James Ponsoldt, Tiffany Johnson, and Stella Meghie directing subsequent episodes. Cretton helmed “Shang-Chi” and is developing the sequel starring Simu Liu (returning to the MCU in “Avengers: Doomsday“), and had been recently helming the Tom Holland-led “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”

Zlatko Burić (“Triangle of Sadness”), who was seen in James Gunn‘s “Superman” as a bad guy over the summer, plays a fictional and reclusive director looking to resurrect the sci-fi hero Wonder Man with a new feature film, leading to Williams’ auditioning for the part (adding to the meta aspect of the project that is expected to lean into comedic beats). Another returning character from the greater MCU is Arian Moayed as P. Cleary from the Department of Damage Control, who was seen in projects such as “Ms. Marvel” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” We’ll also see Olivia Thirlby of “Dredd” in an undisclosed supporting role alongside Byron Bowers.

In the comic books, Simon Williams starts as a villain before joining the ranks of an iteration of “The Avengers” alongside fellow heroes such as Beast from “X-Men.” It remains to be seen how close this MCU version will be to his comic book counterpart and if the linkage to Paul Bettany’s Vision (hypothetically in the upcoming solo series “Vision Quest“) will be explored in the future.
