Well, we all expected it, and some had hoped it would be announced at San Diego Comic Con. Either way, Warner Bros. and DC Films aren’t messing around, and getting the sequel to “Wonder Woman” headed to the big screen as soon as possible.
“Wonder Woman 2” has been officially set for a December 13, 2019 release date. That’s some crazy confidence, booking the movie during one of the busiest movie month’s on the calendar, but WB and DC have every reason to be feeling bold. Patty Jenkins‘ film has been performing remarkably, becoming the highest grossing domestic movie of the summer (passing Marvel‘s “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2“), and the best domestic and second best international grosser in the run of DCEU movies to date. Even more, audiences and critics love this film in a way DC Films hasn’t experienced yet with any of their pictures.
All that being said, Jenkins still isn’t signed to helm the picture, though it’ll be a big shock if she doesn’t. She’s currently writing the script with DC honcho Geoff Johns, with the story reportedly set in the 1980s. Jenkins has been as much as face and voice for “Wonder Woman” as star Gal Gadot, and talks for her to return are ongoing, according to THR.
No other movie is currently set for December 13, 2019 but there’s still plenty of time for contenders to come. The following week, Sony’s “Masters of the Universe,” a Disney fairy tale movie and Universal’s “Wicked” are all slated to open. Meanwhile, those mystery 2020 dates for WB and DC are still wide open….
