Much like the success of “Bohemian Rhapsody” is leading the charge for a revival of the rock star biopic, a few years ago, the success of “Straight Outta Compton” ignited an interest in rap biopics. And if you’re talking influential rap groups of the ‘80s and 90’s, such as ‘Compton’s’ NWA, you also have to take a look at New York City’s Wu-Tang Clan. Now, thanks to Hulu, the story of the legendary rap group is being adapted into a new series, “Wu-Tang: An American Saga.”
As seen in the first trailer for the series, ‘Wu-Tang’ follows the creation of the titular group that started in the ‘90s, thanks to the young mind of Rza, the musical backbone of the group. He’s later joined by a cast of talented rappers, including Method Man, Gza, Ghostface Killah, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Inspectah Deck, and Raekwon. This huge collection of rap talent would combine forces and take over NYC rap in the ‘90s and cement their status as one of the biggest groups to ever hit the musical genre.

‘An American Saga’ is the brainchild of the aforementioned RZA and Method Man, who executive produce alongside superstar producer Brian Grazer. The latter is best known for his Oscar-winning work teaming with director Ron Howard on just about every project for the last 30 years.
The series stars Shameik Moore, Ashton Sanders, Siddiq Saunderson, Zolee Griggs, Erika Alexander, and Marcus Callender.
“Wu-Tang: An American Saga” is set to premiere on Hulu on September 4.
Here’s the synopsis:
Wu-Tang: An American Saga is inspired by “The Wu-Tang Manual” and “Tao of Wu”, and based on the true story of the Wu-Tang Clan. Set in early ’90s New York at the height of the crack cocaine epidemic, the show tracks the Clan’s formation, a vision of Bobby Diggs aka The RZA, who unites the men torn between music and crime but eventually rise to become the unlikeliest of American success stories.
