‘X-Files’: Ryan Coogler’s New Series At Hulu Adds Ben Foster, Amy Madigan & Steve Buscemi To Guest Cast

Holy smokes, this casting news is pretty epic! We’ve known that Ryan Coolger‘s “X-Files” revival/soft-reboot series at Hulu would be shooting for the stars, but they’ve landed two high-profile additions with recent Best Supporting Actress Oscar winner Amy Madigan (“Weapons”), Ben Foster (“Hell or High Water”), and “Boardwalk Empire” star Steve Buscemi.

Those new three will be joining series leads Himesh Patel (“The Odyssey”) and Danielle Deadwyler (“Rooster”), as pointed out by Deadline. This will act as a minor “Station Eleven” reunion between the two main actors playing vastly different FBI agents that are tasked to investigate odd and unexplained phenomena (aliens, monsters, the supernatural, and other paranoia-fuelled conspiracies), echoing the original series from the 1990s that helped catapult Fox Television beyond cartoons and comedy.

Madigan is expected to reprise the role of Aunt Gladys for New Line Cinema and Zach Cregger, with Warner Bros. announcing last month that the prequel “Gladys” would be heading to theaters on September 8, 2028 (telegraphing a shoot next year).

Coogler is coming off the massive box office and critical success of his vampire flick “Sinners,” which earned him a Best Original Screenplay Oscar statue and Michael B. Jordan his Best Actor win for playing dual parts in the pic (also earning Best Cinematography and Best Original Score).

He’ll be writing and directing the new “X-Files” pilot and also serves as EP on the Onyx Collective Studio and 20th Television genre project. Not to mention that, “X-Files” creator Chris Carter is an EP on the reboot with Jennifer Yale set as the showrunner and exec-producing as well, with Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler at Proximity Media. The company’s Simone Harris is a co-executive producer, including Proximity’s Simone Harris, their director of development, Dezi Gallegos, Deadwyler, and Patel.

There has been a door left open for original leads Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny to participate in the show, too.
