Zach Cregger’s Amblin-Produced Sci-Fi Flick ‘The Flood’ & ‘Weapons’ Spinoff ‘Gladys’ Are Part Of WB’s 2028 Slate [CinemaCon]

Wow, it looks like Zach Cregger and Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin have found a new home for the new sci-fi film “The Flood,” after Netflix had reportedly stalled/passed on it, and New Line Cinema is picking up that discarded ball. As part of the slate announcements made during the Warner Bros. presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, the studio dished on a bunch of their release dates, including the Cregger original and his “Weapons” spinoff, “Gladys.”

“The Flood” is officially coming to theaters via WB on August 11, 2028, and “Gladys,” starring recent Best Supporting Actress Oscar-winner Amy Madigan, back in the witchy role, is slated for release on September 8, 2028, with Zach Shields co-writing it.

That original installment, released last year, focused on a town experiencing a massive tragedy as nearly an entire school classroom of young children went missing in the middle of the night, only for a mysterious figure named Aunt Gladys (Madigan), alongside multiple character perspectives, to help audiences figure out the twisty tale in a very interesting way.

Spielberg recently praised Cregger and “Weapons,” adding that watching the movie scared him off from even attempting to do his own horror film and “scratched that itch,” Those who have followed Spielberg’s career will know that he famously produced Tobe Hooper’s “Poltergeist” and persistent rumors that he had more of an active hand on the film than just in a producing capacity.

I think most of us are going to want more information/plot details about both of these upcoming Cregger projects, specifically “The Flood.” However, we’ll just have to be patient as the busy filmmaker is also gearing up to help Sony Pictures reboot their zombie survival horror film franchise, “Resident Evil,” which has already wrapped and is being unleashed upon audiences on September 18, 2026.

We’re thrilled about having THREE, not just one, Cregger film on the horizon, and confident audiences will also respond to these projects in a positive way as they have with both “Weapons” and “Barbarian.”
