'X-Men': Michael Lesslie Hired To Write The Script For Marvel's Mutant Film

Ever since Disney acquired Fox and made it clear that Marvel Studios would be rebooting the “X-Men” franchise, fans have been dying to see the mutants up on the big screen. There have been a few hints about mutants in “Ms. Marvel” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and we’re going to get a final sendoff to the old “X-Men” franchise in the upcoming “Deadpool & Wolverine,” but that isn’t exactly what fans want. They want to see a new “X-Men” film. Well, Marvel Studios has found the writer who will be making that a reality.

According to Deadline, Marvel Studios has hired Michael Lesslie to write the upcoming “X-Men” film. Lesslie is probably best known for his script for the hit, “Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes.” It’s still unclear what fans can expect from a new “X-Men” film. Hell, we still don’t know when it’ll hit theaters. Will it arrive in time for “Avengers: Secret Wars” in 2027? Or is the “X-Men” film going to be part of the next Saga?

Much like “The Fantastic Four,” the “X-Men” film is hugely important for Marvel Studios. If the studio does it correctly, the “X-Men” franchise could lead to a resurgence for the whole MCU. People absolutely adore this franchise and there’s so much that can be done if everything is done correctly. The “X-Men” lore is filled with beloved characters and possible spinoffs. As shown by Fox, for nearly 20 years, you can have a whole cinematic universe with just those characters.

The next step for Marvel Studios is clearly to have a script ready and hire a director for the job. Then we can get a better idea about when we might see the movie on the big screen. At this point, it’s starting to seem a little uncertain that we’ll get the “X-Men” film before 2027’s ‘Secret War.’
