'Yellowjackets' Trailer: Juliette Lewis, Christina Ricci & More Star In Showtime's Ensemble Drama About Trauma & Survival

On paper, you could write off “Yellowjackets” as a “Lord of the Flies”-esque coming-of-age story that we’ve seen time after time before. However, that’s only half of the series, as it also shines a light on the trauma and guilt that follows the survivors decades later.

As seen in the new trailer for “Yellowjackets,” the series is told using two separate time-periods. In the flashback, you’re confronted with a group of young women that survived a plane crash in the remote wilderness, as they band together to attempt to survive. And then, in the present-day, you find some of the survivors, 25 years later, trying to figure out why a mysterious figure is trying to bring up their traumatic past and the secrets they tried to hide.

As you might expect, a series like this requires a pretty big ensemble cast, and in that regard, “Yellowjackets” will not disappoint. The series stars Melanie Lynskey, Juliette Lewis, Christina Ricci, and Tawny Cypress as the adults, while the younger roles feature actors such as Ella Purnell, Samantha Hanratty, Sophie Thatcher, Sophie Nélisse, and Jasmin Savoy Brown.

“Yellowjackets” debuts on Showtime on November 14. You can watch the new trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

Equal parts survival epic, psychological horror story and coming-of-age drama, YELLOWJACKETS is the saga of a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.
