“Yellowstone” reignited the Western genre for millions and millions of fans, while also acting as a sort of career comeback for Kevin Costner. Emboldening the star to go so far as to self-finance his own cinematic two-part Western epic, “Horizon: An American Saga,” based solely on the popularity of the series. His attempt to capitalize on the resurgence of his movie star status and the hugely successful neo-Western TV show came up short however. The ‘Horizon’ two-some did poorly at the box office. And to top things off, Kevin Costner announced his exit from the show this past June after a highly contentious period between the actor and series creator Taylor Sheridan.
Despite the controversy, the proverbial train has left the station. Costner’s absence has not impacted the continuing rise of the show, which will air the latter half of its fifth season starting November 10. Nor does it impact the continuing expansion of the “Yellowstone” universe which has seen two spin-off series (“1883,” “1923”) come to fruition, as well as at least two in production: “The Madison” and “6666.”
“Yellowstone” started it all however and, after nearly two years, fans are super excited for its return.
