Watch Zack Snyder Direct A Dark, Gritty, Green Screened Reboot Of ‘The Late Show’

When you watch Zack Snyder’s films, they do tend to come across as the serious work of a very serious filmmaker. There’s not much levity and joy to grab onto when you’re too busy watching Superman snap someone’s neck or Dave Bautista mowing down a zombie horde with a machine gun. But leave it to “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” to showcase the humor of Zack Snyder.

In a recent segment from Colbert’s late-night show, we see what would happen if Zack Snyder, the director of “Army of the Dead,” “300,” “Watchmen,” and “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” took the reins of a talk show and added his trademark style. What you get is a ‘Late Show’ with green screen, slow-motion, incredibly serious monologues, and Stephen Colbert in the middle of an intense cross-fit regimen. And the results are actually hilarious.

Again, it’s important to know that Snyder seems to be the type of filmmaker that doesn’t take the craft of filmmaking nor the subjects of his projects lightly. Whether it’s buff dudes fighting each other with swords and spears in “300” or superheroes like Batman breaking criminals’ bones, each of his films has an overt dark, gritty tone that has become Snyder’s signature. So, watching him poke fun at himself and the tropes of his films is actually refreshing and appreciated. Clearly, Snyder is a guy that understands the discussions that his work spawns and is willing to take one on the chin in the name of a good time. Bravo, Mr. Snyder.
