Zack Snyder Says ‘Justice League’ Is “A Transcendent, Knights-Of-The-Round-Table” Story

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of JusticeThe anticipation is already fairly feverish for "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice," even though we’re still half a year away from the picture arriving in cinemas. We already know the tone will be dark, and that it’s going to be a super sized affair with the titular characters joined by appearances from Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and The Flash—the core members of Justice League. It’s not a surprise considering director Zack Snyder‘s next blockbuster project is a two-part movie based around the superhero team, and the filmmaker has got some lofty expectations for that massive movie, while playing down any notions of another standalone Superman movie anytime soon.

“I think in a way ‘Batman v Superman’ is ‘Man of Steel 2,’ ” Snyder told Canoe. “ ‘Justice League’ is kind of the transcendent, knights-of-the-round-table of the story. It’d be interesting to think about what a standalone Superman movie might be.”

As for Steven Spielberg‘s recent assertion that the superhero trend is just that, a fad that eventually be replaced by something else, Snyder isn’t too concerned. “The pressure’s on us, the filmmakers, to make the movies better,” the director said. “It’s about human stories; it’s not just about big explosions and stuff. What are these people feeling?”

It’s an interesting comment coming from a filmmaker who arguably has had trouble balancing spectacle and character, but we’ll see how he does when ‘Batman v Superman’ opens on March 25, 2016.
