Got a Tip?

Zack Snyder Says ‘Rebel Moon’ & ‘Army Of The Dead’ Share Universes & Teases A Canceled Crossover

Zack Snyder is no stranger to shared cinematic universes, as he was the original man behind the DCEU series of films. At least there, the idea of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman all existing in the same universe makes sense and is part of the greater DC Universe canon. However, apparently Snyder isn’t done with cinematic universes, as he explains how disparate films, the zombie action film “Army of the Dead” and his upcoming sci-fi space epic “Rebel Moon,” are actually part of the same continuity.

Speaking to TotalFilm, Zack Snyder explained how both “Army of the Dead” and “Rebel Moon” exist in the same universe. And this isn’t some loosey-goosey continuity thing where he is arbitrarily telling fans that everything is connected. No, Snyder was originally planning for this to explicitly be the case, as a canceled Netflix project would have contained the first true crossover between the films.

“‘Army of the Dead’ has a pretty vast mythology that never made it into the movie,” said Snyder. “There’s actually a character from ‘Rebel Moon’ in the ‘Army of the Dead’ animated series that we never did.”

Snyder is referencing the animated “Army of the Dead” spinoff series that was expected to arrive after the first film was released. The series was never completed, but apparently, quite a bit of planning was already done, including a crossover.

He added, “At one point in the show, they go through a portal into another dimension, and there are characters in that other dimension that they come across. In ‘Rebel Moon,’ they’re in this bar, and one of the aliens is one of the characters from the animatic. So it’s definitely a shared universe.”

Does this mean we can expect an ‘Avengers’-style collab between “Army of the Dead” and “Rebel Moon?” Likely not, right? They’re just very, very different films. That said, it’s clear that Snyder is thinking about these films existing in a shared universe, so who knows? Maybe it will happen.
