Got a Tip?

‘The Batman’: Zoe Kravitz Says Fan Expectations Can Be “Distracting” & Calls The Film’s Script “Phenomenal”

Following in the footsteps of a number of actresses before her, including Michelle Pfeiffer and Anne Hathaway, Zoe Kravitz is the latest person cast in the role of Selena Kyle/Catwoman. She’s set to appear as the fan-favorite character in the upcoming Warner Bros. superhero film, “The Batman,” from director Matt Reeves. And according to a new interview with Variety, Kravitz is well aware of the pressure of playing Catwoman, while also understanding just how cool it is.

Kravitz was asked what it felt like to wear the Catwoman suit for the first time. And as you might expect, she didn’t hate it.

“It’s cool, man. It’s cool. I can’t say it wasn’t cool, but I’ve been really trying to not think too much about just what that character means to everybody else,” said Kravitz. “Just because it can be distracting in the wrong way, especially when you’re trying to become someone else.”

She added, “When the announcement came out that I had gotten this role, my phone rang more than it has ever. More than my birthday, more than my wedding, more than anything. So I felt that immediate pressure. The script is phenomenal. The story’s really strong. I feel very clear on who Selena is and what she wants, and I’m trying to stay more focused on that.”

But obviously, Kravitz’s role as Selena Kyle aka Catwoman is just one of the big characters in the upcoming superhero film. There’s also Batman himself, Robert Pattinson. And while she can’t give away anything specific about the film, Kravitz explained why she thinks the actor is perfect for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman.

“He’s a really interesting artist, and that is very much Batman in a way,” she said. “We have the illusion of Bruce Wayne, and then we have Batman in the shadows that has a lot more complicated things going on. So just in that, I think he’s perfect for this role. He can relate in that way, and he looks good in the suit, man. He looks good in the suit. That’s a good jawline. But he’s just a great actor and he brings so much to everything he does.”

Kravitz added, “He’s way up for the challenge and has really interesting ideas already. I think he’s perfect, perfect casting.”

“The Batman” is just one of the many films that was forced to stop filming after the COVID-19 outbreak in early spring. The film, which was shooting in the UK, has yet to officially restart production. But we do know when Matt Reeves’ movie will arrive in theaters, as “The Batman” is currently scheduled for an October 1, 2021 release.
