Got a Tip?

Frank Grillo Turned Down Playing Crossbones Again For Marvel

Just because you’ve landed a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe doesn’t mean your character will necessarily have a complex or enriching arc (just ask Natalie Portman). And while Crossbones is very cool on paper, he didn’t really do much across “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Captain America: Civil War.” And it looks like we won’t be seeing any more of him any future MCU efforts.

Frank Grillo, the actor who played Crossbones in those two films, recently sat down with Collider and revealed that while he’s happy to have had the chance to rumble with superheroes on the big screen, he turned down the chance to do it again.

“If [James] DeMonaco was still involved and they came up with a great idea, then I think I would do [another ‘Purge‘ movie]. Otherwise, I think I’m done. Same thing with ‘Captain America.’ There’s nowhere for it to go, unless you’re Captain America or Iron Man. They were talking about it, but I was like, ‘You know what? I’d just rather not do it.’ I’m so appreciative and grateful to have been a part of something that big. I’m appreciative of ‘The Purge,'” he said. “It’s become a part of the lexicon and the zeitgeist knows what it is, so that’s been fun. But, it’s time to move on. Don’t stay at the party too long, or you get knocked through the ropes.”

Fair enough, and it’s not like Grillo will likely be missing out on too much by leaving the MCU. Thoughts? Let us know below.
