'Guys And Dolls' Remake Moving Forward With Michael Grandage Directing

Given how long 20th Century Fox has been developing the project, it was not a matter of if but when they would get going on their remake of the classic musical “Guys and Dolls.” The production has taken one step forward, as a director has signed on to step into the shoes of Joseph L. Mankiewicz.

Deadline reports that the surprising choice of Michael Grandage has signed up to helm the film. It might seem a bit strange to choose a neophyte who only recently made their directorial debut with upcoming literary drama “Genius” starring Colin Firth and Jude Law, but Grandage actually directed the 2005 stage version of “Guys and Dolls” in London’s West End, so he’s more than familiar with the material. That said, the stage and screen are completely different mediums with different demands, but clearly Fox believes he can pull it off.

As for casting, there’s no word yet, but a couple years back, Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were floated/sought/rumored to take over the lead roles played by Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando. No word if that’s still in the cards, but it would certainly be something to see them take the leads. Do you have another suggestion? Let us know in the comments section.
