Lena Dunham To Co-Write 'Toni Erdmann' Remake

We could hardly believe it either when news arrived earlier this year that a remake of the acclaimed, Oscar-nominated “Toni Erdmann” was in the works. We were even more surprised that it would star Jack Nicholson and Kristen Wiig. Well, the bombshells don’t end there.

The Tracking Board is reporting that “Girls” duo Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner are in talks to write the film. They are just the latest big names Paramount is working with, which includes producers Adam McKay and Will Ferrell, in this Hollywood take on Maren Ade‘s tender and frequently oddball story (it’s a safe bet the pastry/sex scene won’t be in the American version) about a father who creates an entirely new persona to connect with his workaholic daughter. That said, if anyone knows about writing comedies that pushes the envelope, it’s Dunham and Konner, so who knows, maybe that sex scene will stay in.

The big question that remains is who will direct the feature film, but I presume that none of those decisions are going to be made until everyone sees a script.
