Matthias Schoenaerts Reteams With Michaël Roskam For 'The Racer And The Jailbird' Co-Starring Adele Exarchopoulos

Actor Matthias Schoenaerts and director Michaël Roskam both broke out with 2011’s visceral “Bullhead,” and while the English language effort “The Drop” didn’t resonate in the same way (even with Tom Hardy and a puppy!), it hasn’t dampened their spirits to work together again. And indeed, their next collaboration is already rolling in front of cameras.

Filming is underway on “The Racer And The Jailbird,” with “Blue Is The Warmest Color” actress Adele Exarchopoulos in the co-starring role. The movie is set in the world of racing, and follows the dangerous romance that blooms between a gangster (Schoenaerts) and a driver (Exarchopoulos). Alright, I’m in. This is one the director has had brewing for a few years now (it was previously called “The Faithful“), but I’m glad to see it didn’t get lost in the shuffle.

Worldwide sales for the project will be up for grabs at Cannes, and I wouldn’t bet against the film itself showing up on the Croisette next year. [Screen Daily]
