Perhaps sensing the panic that’s currently surrounding “The Batman” with Ben Affleck exiting the director’s chair, and possibly thinking about hanging up the cowl, Warner Bros. is going hard on the “Aquaman” news this afternoon.
Nicole Kidman and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II have joined Jason Momoa and Amber Heard in the James Wan-directed movie in some major roles. Kidman will playing Aquaman’s Mom Atlanna, while Abdul-Mateen II has lined up the villain role of Black Manta. The movie will mark Kidman’s first comic book effort since “Batman Forever,” but it seems she’s been looking to get into the latest trend, as you might remember she was mentioned early on for a role in “Wonder Woman” (which didn’t wind up panning out).
Production will kick off in April, so expect more news to come in the weeks ahead. [THR/Variety]
