Patrick Dempsey To Play 'Tom's Dad' For Director Lasse Hallstrom

Even though the promising transgendered drama “The Danish Girl,” with Gwyneth Paltrow and Nicole Kidman fell apart earlier this year, director Lasse Halstrom has no shortage of projects to get to. He is set to take over “Salmon Fishing In Yemen” from director Bill Condon who is busy prepping the HBO comedy “Tilda” and a little film called “Breaking Dawn” you might have heard about. Hallstrom has also attached himself to “My American Lover” with real life lovers Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis to star.

Now you can add one more to Hallstrom’s plate as he is set to direct Patrick Dempsey in the coming of age drama “Tom’s Dad.” Written by playwright Marty Casella, ” the story unfolds in 1962 Las Vegas, as a successful character actor and vaudevillian nightclub performer struggles to keep up with changing comedy styles as his estranged son appears to complicate matters.”

No word yet on when it might get in front of cameras. Condon’s version of “Salmon Fishing In Yemen” was set to shoot this summer, but it remains unclear if the project is still on that production timeline. Depp’s slate is tied up until early 2011, so don’t expect “My American Lover” to happen anytime soon, nor “The Danish Girl” even though it’s still in development at Kidman’s Blossom Films shingle. So could “Tom’s Dad” be next? It sure looks like it.
